Video: Dock washed away by raging Hayward River
hayward, california (cron) — A dramatic video was captured on New Year’s Eve when a powerful storm swept the entire dockside from the Don Castro Regional Recreation Area.
The river that flows through East Bay Park in Hayward has been swollen with fresh rainwater. Tony Potenti was filming a video of the storm from a footbridge in pouring rain when he saw the docks floating towards him at 7:40 a.m.
The dock was swept under a footbridge and crashed into a spillway. Watch his Potenti video in the player above.
East Bay Regional Park District officials closed Lake Chabot and the surrounding park on Sunday and Monday due to falling rocks, flooding, storm damage and the collapse of large trees.
Another large storm is expected to hit the region on Wednesday.
