Preventing Conjunctivitis in the Monsoon Season: Effective Tips for Healthy Eyes

The lush greenery brought by rain offers relief to the eyes but can also pose health challenges. During the rainy season, conditions like conjunctivitis, fungal, viral, and bacterial infections, as well as allergies, become more prevalent. Symptoms such as redness, dryness, itching, and eye pain are common, often accompanied by headaches and migraines. It is crucial to prioritize eye care during this time, as well as throughout the year, given modern lifestyles that include prolonged online activity, exposure to radiation, and pollution, which contribute to issues like glaucoma, cataracts, and myopia.

Common eye problems during the rainy season include conjunctivitis, viral and bacterial infections, and eye allergies, all characterized by symptoms such as redness, dryness, itching, swelling of the eyelids, and watery eyes.

Improving eyesight can be aided by practicing yoga techniques such as pranayama (breathing exercises), particularly Anulom-Vilom and Bhramari, for 30 minutes in the morning and evening. Additionally, consuming ‘Maha Triphala Ghrita’ mixed with milk twice daily after meals, as well as aloe vera and amla juice, Triphala, and rose water, can be beneficial.

For home remedies, a mixture of 1 teaspoon each of white onion juice, ginger lemon juice, honey, and rose water, mixed with gooseberry juice, can be applied as eye drops twice daily, morning and evening. These practices can help alleviate eye discomfort and maintain eye health during the rainy season and beyond.
