SAN JOSE — A developer has switched gears significantly with plans to replace an old office and research building in San Jose, city documents show.
Summerhill Homes is considering developing a large townhome complex at 210 Bay Point Parkway north of San Jose on the site of a high-tech building that was built nearly 40 years ago, according to the real estate firm. said in a revised preliminary application.
The townhome project replaces an earlier proposal for Bay Point Parkway Real Estate. The first version of SummerHill envisioned a 329-unit apartment complex.
The new project will build 104 townhomes on the site.
The revised proposal is in its very early stages and is being considered by city officials as a way to gauge the response of San Jose political leaders and planners.
According to commercial real estate listing site Property Shark, the project will be built on a 4.3-acre site that currently houses a 68,000-square-foot office building built in 1985.
In its initial tentative proposal for a multifamily version of the housing development, Summerhill noted that “redevelopment of this industrial site with high-quality residential properties would enhance the neighborhood’s landscape and compatibility with surrounding residential uses.” will rise,” he said.

The proposed development would be located on Baypoint Parkway between East Tasman Drive and Zanker Road.
