Livermore Winery owner dies in car crash

(cron) — collision of two cars friday afternoon A 59-year-old man died in the accident, according to the Livermore Police Department. Police added that the driver of a white GMC SUV that collided with a black Subaru on East Avenue and Mitra Street on Friday died in hospital.

Alameda County Coroner’s Office confirmed to KRON4 that the driver was identified as Mitchell Katz. Katz was the owner of Livermore’s Mitchell Katz Winery.

Mitchell Katz Winery announced Saturday morning that it will be closed the weekend of July 22nd and 23rd. over 100 facebook comment Many people have sent their condolences to the Katz family.

In a post shared on Mitchell Katz Winery Facebook PageKatz’s sons wrote a letter with the news of their father’s death.

“We have suffered a tragic loss…our father, Mitchell Katz, was suddenly taken from us on the evening of Friday, July 21, 2023,” the post read. “We would like to thank everyone who has expressed their sincere condolences. We ask for your continued support and respect for our privacy during this time.

Mitchell Katz Winery was founded in 1998. The winery was set up to honor Mitchell’s grandfather, who died at the age of 96, according to the winery’s website.

The winery is located at 2915 S. Vasco Road in Livermore. Friday’s death occurred about 2.9 miles northwest of the winery.
