Former AMR paramedic charged with sexually assaulting patient in San Mateo County
Colma-San Mateo County prosecutors say a former paramedic faces charges last year for sexually assaulting two elderly women as they were being transported to the hospital.
Miguel Ontiveros, who worked for American Medical Response, has been charged with two felony counts of forced oral copulation. If convicted, the 35-year-old Redwood City resident faces life in prison.
One of the alleged assaults was reported on Dec. 23, when Ontiveros and his female paramedic partner were dispatched to a Colma nursing home to transport a 76-year-old woman who had collapsed to San Mateo Medical Center. the district attorney’s office said.
According to prosecutors, Ontiveros sexually assaulted the victim while his partner was driving. saw him pull up his pants, the district attorney’s office said.
The female paramedic contacted her superiors, adding that a DNA test led to assault charges against Ontiveros, prosecutors said.
and Statement to KTVUan AMR spokesperson said the company reported the alleged assault to the California Highway Patrol and placed Ontiveros on unpaid administrative leave.
“Following his arrest, we have terminated Mr. Ontiveros’ employment at AMR,” a spokesperson told the news station. “AMR is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies.”
According to the District Attorney’s Office, an investigation revealed that Ontiveros had been accused of similarly sexually assaulting an 80-year-old woman during transportation on May 21.
Ontiveros appeared in court on Monday for an initial arraignment. Prosecutors said he was scheduled to return Wednesday afternoon for further arraignment and filling out a petition.
Prison records show Ontiveros is being held at Maguire Correctional Institution in Redwood City on $3 million bail.
