DH Peligro – Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dead Kennedys drummer dies at 63 after falling at home
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer DH Peligro has died at the age of 63.
The musician, whose real name is Darren Henry, died Friday after falling and hitting his head at his home in Los Angeles.
Henry enjoyed a brief stint with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1988, but was best known as a member of Dead Kennedy.
“Dead Kennedy drummer DH Peligro (Darren Henry) passed away yesterday, October 28th at his home in Los Angeles.
“He died of head injuries from an accidental fall.
“Pending arrangements will be announced in the near future.
“Thank you for your thoughts and words of comfort.”
Henry replaced the original drummer of the Dead Kennedys in 1981 and remained with the group until its dissolution in 1986.
He then joined the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1988, taking over from drummer Jack Irons.
The punk rocker has been in bands for years and was previously in the comedy group Three Little Butt Hairs with singer Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea.
Henely helped write some songs for the band’s fourth album, Mother’s Milk, but did not perform it.
He was fired from the group in November 1988, replaced by Chad Smith a few weeks later and remained with the band ever since.
In 2001, Dead Kennedy reunited without former frontman Jello Biafra.
Henry went on hiatus in early 2008, but rejoined the group in June 2009 and remained active until his death.
During his career Starr also performed with bands such as The Hellations, Jungle Studs, Nailbomb, The Feederz, Lock-Up, The Two Free Stooges, Reverend Jones and SSI.
He also fronted his own band, Peligro, which released three albums.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist leads a tribute to Henry.
He wrote on Instagram: “My dear friend, my brother, I will miss you. I am devastated today like a river of tears, but I will miss every moment of my life.” You cherish.
“When I first saw you play for DK’s in ’81, you blew my mind. Power, soul, recklessness.
“You’ve become my dearest friend. There have been many times all sorts of things. We’ve had each other’s backs and it’s been so much fun and so happy.”
“I love you with all my heart. You are the truest rocker and an important part of rhcp history.”
Fans paid tribute to him, calling him a “legend”.
One wrote:
“He’s a great drummer and a lot of fun to watch.”
Another wrote, “I miss my brother. You always gave me the best smile and the biggest hug.”
