World Book Day: Royal Mail unveil special postboxes and new post stamps

Royal Mail has opened special mailboxes that can be seen across the UK before World Book Day.

In the mailboxes there are lines from books by authors such as Greg James and Chris Smith, Nadia Hussein, Dara McAnaltie and Martin Waddle, as well as works by Harry Potter cover illustrator Johnny Duddle.

Mailboxes are located in Luton, Nanerchy in County Flinshire, Dundee and Castlewell in Northern Ireland, close to places of importance to both writers and their work.

The Royal Mail also celebrates the 25th anniversary of World Book Day with a special postmark.

David Gold of Royal Mail said: “The UK has released many world-class authors and illustrators who have written books and created characters that have inspired and entertained children and adults for generations.

“We are proud to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day and to honor the works of some of the UK’s most beloved authors and illustrators in our mailboxes.”

Cassie Chaderton, executive director of World Book Day, said: “We are delighted to celebrate authors and illustrators from across the UK to celebrate our 25th anniversary with the Royal Mail.

“It’s nice to see that some of our book authors and illustrators worth £ 1 are presented, and we hope the mailboxes inspire more families to read together and showcase just a few wonderful books available for children to study.”
