American Airlines cancels all flights out of Long Beach Airport – Orange County Register

American Airlines will suspend all service from Long Beach Airport, the company announced on Friday, Jan. 6, with the airline’s last flight scheduled to depart from LGB in February.

“We appreciate the good relationship with American Airlines and understand their tough business decisions during this difficult time,” LGB Director Cynthia Guidry said in a statement Friday. We look forward to welcoming you.”

The airline will suspend operations from its Long Beach terminal on Feb. 28 because the route has not met performance expectations, the company said Friday.

“We are actively contacting customers with travel plans after February 28 to offer alternative travel arrangements,” the airline said Friday.

American Airlines also ended service at three other airports nationwide in 2022 due to a nationwide pilot shortage, but the decision to end service at LGB is based purely on financial matters.

American Airlines spokesman Derek Walls said Friday that the reason is not operational performance.

American Airlines currently accounts for about 6% of all LGB flights, operating three flights daily between Long Beach and Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Arizona.

According to LGB spokeswoman Kate Kaikendall, these three flight slots will be available to airlines on the airport’s waitlist, but it will take time to decide which airline will take over them. says it will take at least a month.

“It takes time to sort things out because we have to officially notify carriers of slot availability,” Kaikendal said. “Then we usually respond within 30 days.”

Meanwhile, American Airlines will continue to operate more than 145 daily flights to 52 destinations worldwide from Los Angeles International Airport, Hollywood Burbank Airport, Ontario International Airport and John Wayne Airport.
