Woman dies after fall at Grand Canyon National Park

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KSTU) – A woman from Salt Lake City, Utah, died Monday after falling in Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park.

Officials say Margaret Osswald, 34, was at Ledges Camp when she fell about 20 feet and suffered serious injuries. Members of the Osswald group were on CPR attempt after being found unanswered in a camp near the Colorado River.

A Arizona Department of Homeland Security helicopter was sent and Osswald was found dead.

According to park officials, Osswald Canyon boarded the boat to join a group on a private trip.

An investigation into Osswald’s death is underway.

The deceased was the second to be reported in less than two weeks in the Great Canyon. On March 25, a 68-year-old Colorado woman was killed in a boat accident.
