“I know how it works, how hard it works … I waited, waited and waited. When I heard the name, I was just ‘Yes!'” The actor’s mother said in an exclusive interview with 6abc.
On the biggest night of Hollywood, he woke up early and was the first to send a message to the special group chat of the family.
“I started by saying, ‘Good morning, we have to say good luck to Uncle Will,'” Carolyn Smith recalls.
But no one would have predicted how the biggest night in Hollywood would unfold.
As the Smith family gathered at their family home in suburban Philadelphia, the actor’s mother, sisters, and others dressed and gathered around the television to watch their hero.
But before the award was announced, there was a very awkward and surprising moment when Will Smith took the stage and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian joked about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her fight against hair loss.
The famous actor who was born and raised in West Philadelphia, who always seemed cool and collected, lost it.
Even Smith’s mother admits she was surprised.
“He is a very uniform man. This is the first time I have seen him leave. For the first time in his life … I have never seen him do that,” said Carolyn Smith.
But the family says that at this moment does not define him and that the actor puts his family first, that he is loved and the one who keeps the family together.
Will Smith’s younger sister, Ellen Smith, says she saw her brother excel under constant pressure and under the spotlight in Hollywood.
“I had conversations with him and it was as if he broke my heart hearing the things he said he had to go through to get to where he is,” he said.
While people have different views, there is no controversy about this family. They are proud of the Philadelphia actor who has done it and they know he will make the right moves in the future
“I’m proud of who he is,” said Carolyn Smith.
