Gusts increase fire risk in Southern California this weekend

Gusts of wind, dry weather and rising temperatures in Santa Ana could pose a fire hazard to Southern California this weekend.

Fire conditions will remain high through Sunday and could be dangerous Friday night through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

“If you live in an area with a high fire risk, review your evacuation plan.” the agency tweeted.

High winds are expected in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and fire weather warnings are in effect for Saturday from 1:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This means that serious conditions could develop in the next few days, the Japan Meteorological Agency explained.

Widespread weather conditions are expected through Sunday.

Peak northeasterly gusts can reach 30 to 45 mph along local coasts and valleys, particularly the Santa Clarita Valley and parts of Ventura County.

Gusts can reach up to 40 to 55 mph in the mountains.

Authorities advise drivers of high-profile vehicles to slow down. Additionally, residents are advised to secure loose objects and be aware of fire sources. Authorities have warned that power outages may occur during high wind events.

Northeasterly winds are expected to boost temperatures, with Sunday set to be the hottest day of the weekend.
