Why can’t house cats roar?

Domestic cats may dominate the living room, but one important difference (other than size) sets them apart from the jungle king. It’s vocalization. Most large cats, such as lions and tigers, can roar loudly to announce their existence and protect their territories, but domestic cats are stuck in less ferocious meows and rumblings.

So why can’t I have a cat? Goodness knows it helps them roam the house (even more so than they have already done).
