Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic inflammatory disease of the brain and spinal cord, is the most common neurodegenerative disease in young adults. In fact, this disease affects about a quarter of Americans.
The cause of MS is unknown. However, experts know that something causes the immune system to attack the brain as well backbone. The immune system it destroys myelin, or the covering that surrounds nerves, which disrupts signals to and from the brain. Therefore, people with MS can have a negative impact on their daily life.
MS symptoms can be acute or chronic and can vary from person to person. It is important to know the different symptoms of MS. Symptoms of MS may include:
- Movement problems such as fatigue or weakness when walking, talking or swallowing
- Tingling or numbness in the limbs
- Bladder and bowel dysfunction

- In severe cases, people with MS may experience blindness and/or paralysis
There is no known cure for MS. Therefore, taking care of the symptoms is an important part of leading a good life with this disease. Your doctor may choose to treat your MS with steroid therapy, blood transfusions or body modification depending on the severity of your symptoms.
However, with the help of your doctor, there are many things you can do to help too. Here are some style changes You can do to help manage MS symptoms from home:
- Get an adequate amount of quality rest. People with MS are more likely to experience sleep problems than the general population. To improve the quality of sleep, try clearing your mind before going to sleep, practicing relaxation techniques, decluttering electronic devices from the bedroom and adjusting your sleep schedule.
- Work out. If you can, regular exercise can help increase your strength, muscle mass, balance and coordination. Swimming is a great option for those who are bothered by heat.
- Calm yourself down. If your temperature rises, MS symptoms may get worse. Avoiding heat exposure by wearing cool clothing can help.
- Eating a regulate eating. A hearty diet may be recommended, and make sure you are getting plenty of fiber and water to help with bowel problems caused by MS.
- Reduce stress. When you experience stress, your MS symptoms can get worse. Yoga, tai chi, massage, deep breathing or meditation can help reduce stress.
