A massive uproar that erupted in the stands during one of Mexico’s football league matches could negatively affect Mexico’s national team, with many calling for the disqualification of the 2022 FIFA World Cup team.

Saturday’s violent clash ended the match and forced fans to flee the Corregidora stadium, located in the central state of Querétaro, during the match between the local Gallos Blancos and the Atlas of Jalisco.

At least 26 people were injured, three of them in critical condition, according to Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri.

Images and testimonials Social media circulating indicated a more violent and even fatal outcome, and some showed bloodied, unconscious individuals in the stadium. Still, the governor of Querétaro and state officials have said since Tuesday morning that no one was killed during the riot.
