Shohei Ohtani reveals a sense of stability both in his personal life and on the baseball field. He shares insights into a previously undisclosed hitting exercise

Every time Shohei Ohtani steps onto the field, whether it’s with the Los Angeles Dodgers or any other team, he attracts attention. As a two-time MVP and a global superstar, his $700 million contract and the ongoing investigation by Major League Baseball into his former interpreter’s alleged involvement in illegal gambling only add to the spectacle.

Despite the distractions, Ohtani remains focused and composed.

“Regardless of whatever happens off the field, my ability to continue to play baseball hasn’t changed. It’s my job to make sure that I play to the best of my abilities,” he shared through his new interpreter, Will Ireton, before a recent game at Minnesota.

Currently sidelined from pitching due to recovery from Tommy John elbow surgery, Ohtani has kept a low profile since joining the Dodgers. However, during a recent media session at Target Field, he displayed his trademark calm demeanor.

When asked about the absence of his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, who was dismissed amid allegations of financial misconduct, Ohtani expressed gratitude for the support he’s received from the team during this period.

In a surprising revelation, Ohtani disclosed that he has been using a cricket-style bat as part of his hitting routine. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained that the unique equipment, resembling a cricket paddle with a baseball bat handle, helps Ohtani work on his hitting mechanics by practicing staying longer in the hitting zone.

Roberts noted that Ohtani has embraced the suggestion from hitting coach Robert Van Scoyoc and has shown improvement in his approach.

Ohtani’s performance at the plate has been impressive, with eight hits and two home runs in his last four games. He credits the use of the cricket bat for his success, indicating that it has helped him mentally and allowed him to feel more comfortable.

Despite his pitching injury, Ohtani’s rehabilitation progress has been positive, with gradual increases in throwing intensity. He remains confident in his recovery and is optimistic about returning to full form.

Roberts praised Ohtani’s resilience and exceptional athleticism, highlighting his ability to recover quickly and perform at a high level.

As Ohtani continues to navigate the challenges both on and off the field, his dedication and determination remain unwavering, setting an example for his teammates and fans alike.
