A Watsonville man who killed two people in a drunk driving accident was sentenced to eight years in prison


A man who killed two people in a drunk driving accident was convicted in Monterey County. Joel Gonzalez, 22, of Watsonville, was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison after failing to plea. Gonzales was charged with two manslaughter charges while he was drunk. The crash occurred on San Miguel Canyon Road near Mark Ryan Estate shortly after 10 pm, according to California Highway Patrol investigators. Gonzales was driving a Chevy truck when he crossed the yellow double line and collided with an oncoming vehicle and collided head-on with a Nissan vehicle. As a result of the collision, Nissan drivers and passengers were declared dead on the scene. Gonzales and four passengers in his car were injured.
