Fire officials said it is now 51 percent contained.

People living in Wawona were able to return to their homes as of yesterday morning after a week of evacuation.

The fire has reached more than 4,900 acres, mostly in Yosemite National Park and the Sierra National Forest.

Fire officials say they feel confident they have been able to save the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.

Officials say they are staying focused, knowing the flames are still on the move.

It will remain closed for at least several more days.
