It will be the first major parade and public gathering on Market Street since the pandemic began — six days ahead of the Pride Parade — when the Golden State Warriors stage their first championship victory parade in four years on Monday.
have you searched”NBA Championship” on Google today? If you do that, a fun fireworks graphic will appear. And on Monday, our champion Golden State Warriors will be back home, rolling up Market Street in these party wagons (we assume? Giants style?) for the first time — and a parade for the first time since their last NBA championship win in 2018, when they were still Oakland residents.
The veterans on the roster – Splash Brothers Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green – are old hats on this show. They won championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018 and rode in victory parades in Oakland – and who can forget a totally shitty Draymond who walked in front of the camera during the 2015 celebrations and slurred, “We world champions”?
But this will be the first time the Warriors have pulled up Market Street in San Francisco the way the Giants did after their World Series wins in 2010, 2012 and 2014 and the way the 49ers last did it in 1995.
As ABC 7 reportsthe parade begins Monday at around 10 a.m. on Market and Main Streets and ends at 2 p.m. near the Civic Center on Market and Sixth Streets
The Warriors have announced that the celebration will be a “free-flowing and engaging celebration event for fans, with an opportunity to share the excitement of the 2022 NBA Championship up close with the Warriors, their players, coaches, Legends and staff.” “
Incidentally, when the Warriors were still the Philadelphia Warriors, they were the first team ever to win an NBA championship when the championships began in 1947 under what was then the BAA, the Basketball Association of America. Two years later it would become the NBA and the Warriors would win again in 1956 and 1975, but then they would have a long, long non-championship dry spell leading up to the current era and their 2015 win.
