Authorities released a desperate 911 call and a new body camera video on Saturday in the aftermath of a shootout between a Los Angeles police officer and a Van Nuys-armed suspect in April.

The incident occurred on April 28, at about 2:30 pm, on 5200 blocks on Vesper Avenue, and a Los Angeles police officer responded to a call for fire.

The video contains audio from a 911 call from a woman who was trying to help a police officer who was injured after the shooting.

The footage shows a police officer who found a suspect (later identified as 24-year-old Christopher Karmarena-Kintanilla) suffering from a gunshot wound in a breeze next to his apartment.

Los Angeles Police Department off-duty police officers are suspected in detention after being shot dead during a shooting, officials said.

Los Angeles fire department officials also found the suspect throwing a policeman’s pistol magazine on the fence.

Los Angeles Police Department Secretary Michel Moore said a shootout took place during the incident when an off-duty police officer left the apartment and went to the parking lot of the complex. Moore said police officers saw the suspect break into his car, wearing a police officer’s bulletproof vest, and stealing a police officer’s gun from his duty bag contained in the car.

A police officer (later identified as Mike Vaeda, armed with a backup pistol) confronted the man about the invasion.

Moore said a quarrel arose, leading to a shootout.
The man fired at the policeman, and the policeman fired, Moore said. The shootout led to a breeze, where the man was shot in his arms and shoulders and fell to the ground.

The policeman recovered the gun from the man and returned to his car. He placed his weapon near the vehicle, fell with two gunshot wounds on his chest and one on his thigh, and was injured in a shootout.

Beyda and Carmalena-Quintanilla were taken to a local hospital where they were both treated for their injuries.

Carmarena-Quintanilla was charged with attempted murder, robbery, and resistance to felony with police officers in possession of firearms.

Investigation is in progress.
