Victorville City to Increase Staffing at Fire Station 315 with Measure P Revenue – VVNG.com

VICTORVILLE, CA — Building on its initial opening of Fire Station 315 last year, the city of Victorville announced it will use Measure P revenue to increase staffing at the station located on Eucalyptus Street to expand fire service in the southwest corner of the city starting July 23 .

“We are excited to deliver on our promise to expand the fire department in Victorville,” said Victorville Mayor Debra Jones. “With the help of Measure P, we are investing in services to increase the safety and quality of life of our growing community.”

Because the majority of VFD calls are medical, the City prioritized medical response in the first phase of opening Fire Station 315. For the past year, Fire Station 315 has been staffed by a two-person emergency response team. Thanks to Measure P revenue, the service will be expanded starting July 23 with a three-person ambulance equipped to respond to both fire and medical calls in the southwest part of the city where there was a gap in coverage.

“Expanding our fire department to meet the needs of our growing community is a strategic imperative,” said Victorville Fire Chief Brian Fallon. “This further expansion of Fire Station 315 will increase our at-risk services to community members in the southwest part of our city, and the benefits of faster response times and additional services will be felt throughout our community.”

Measure P is a one-cent sales tax approved by Victorville voters in 2020. All expenditures are certified by the Citizens’ Oversight Board and approved by the Victorville City Council.

Measure P revenue was used to expand public safety and services for Victorville’s growing population. In addition to opening Fire Station 315, the City added 11 police officers to add neighborhood patrols, quick response times and increased traffic. The city also added five Code Compliance Officers to deal with vermin, homelessness and illegal dumping. Proceeds from Measure P were also used for several parks, recreation, library and community center upgrades and to fund a temporary homeless shelter until the city’s wellness center campus opens in spring 2023.

Measure P is expected to generate approximately $29 million this fiscal year. Additional information on Measure P and the City of Victorville’s annual budget is available on the City’s website at VictorvilleCA.gov.

The history of the Victorville Fire Department dates back to 1926 when the Victorville County Fire Protection District was established. In 1930, the Victorville Volunteer Fire Department was established. In 1976, approximately 14 years after Victorville was incorporated, control of the Victorville Fire Protection District was assumed by the City of Victorville. In March 2019, the City of Victorville reinstated its fire department after contracting out fire services for 10 years.
