80 cars seized at Auckland’s big sideshow on Friday night

Dublin, California (cron) — was another wild scene on the streets of Oakland during the weekend’s illegal sideshow. At least 250 vehicles participated in Friday night’s sideshow, according to the Oakland Police Department. In addition to sideshow activities, officers also had to contend with life-threatening obstacles such as lasers, fireworks, and vehicle fires.

About 80 vehicles were seized and towed as a result, police said.

Oakland Police said in a social media post, “Illegal sideshow activity throughout the Bay Area kept officers at the Oakland Police Department on duty until early Saturday morning.” It was overhead when 250 vehicles occupied the intersection of 10th Avenue and Oak Street.”

The latest sideshow came shortly after a man was attacked and beaten during a sideshow last week.

Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao said the city is working with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office on a sideshow prevention plan. However, few details about the plan were available at the Sheriff’s Office in Dublin.

A recent video showed around 10:45 pm on a Friday night in Oakland that a vehicle engulfed in flames was seen driving another vehicle driven by someone who had participated in an illegal sideshow on 10th Avenue and Oak Street. It showed a state of collision with a vehicle. Oakland Police Department investigators confirmed several reports of illegal sideshows around the city that night.

Auckland Police announced on Facebook that there will be additional resources on the streets over the weekend for illegal sideshows. These additional resources did not include representatives from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Lieutenant Ty Modeste, a spokesperson for the Alameda County Sheriff, said sheriffs monitored about 200 vehicles that had gathered in San Lorenzo and South Hayward but were later disbanded.

“We kept an eye on it,” said Lieutenant Modeste. “The Hayward Police Department was watching. We are now seeing sideshows coming to unincorporated areas and suburbs.”

Alameda County Sheriff’s Office officials say they have not received Sideshow mutual aid calls from the City of Oakland through 2023.

In response to residents being severely beaten at a recent sideshow in Auckland, a portion of Mayor Thao’s statement read:

“My office is currently working with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department on a strong and comprehensive plan to conduct a sting operation so that we can crack down on the illegal sideshows that continue to harm our residents. is standing.”

Did you ask Lieutenant Modeste if a specific plan is still being drawn up?

“Right!” he replied. “The specific plans the mayor is referring to are still under discussion. Are we dedicated to keeping our county’s roads safe? We’re absolutely at the table to hear and discuss what it’s like.”

KRON4 has reached out to Mayor Thao’s office to clarify the sideshow plan they are working with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, which the mayor referred to in the statement.

I was told she was out of the city this week and not available.
