Victims in fatal Midway intersection crash identified as 23-year-old man, 81-year-old woman

Authorities released the names of the man and woman killed on Monday when a truck hit a Midway county, blew it up and then landed in the victims’ family van.

Ahmed Mazin Salah Alrawi, 23, and Suad Alsamarai, 81, died at the scene shortly after 9pm on Saturday at Sports Arena Boulevard and Rosecrans Street, the forensic office said.

Alrawi and Alsamarai were in the back seat of their family’s 2015 Toyota Sierra when it was struck while they stopped at a red light, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. Authorities were not immediately available for comment.

Three others were injured in the collision – two people in the minivan and the driver of the Toyota Tundra that fell on him.

According to San Diego police, the Tacoma was driving at high speed as it was heading west at the Sports Arena and hit a waist.

The pickup went into the air and landed on top of the stopped minibus, which was heading north on the Rosecrans.

The driver of the pickup suffered broken bones and other injuries, police said. They did not say how much the two survivors were injured in the minivan.
