San Francisco (CBS SF) — Vice President Kamala Harris responds to hundreds of thousands of reactions across all platforms to the shooting of an unarmed black man by a Minneapolis police officer who thought he was using a taser gun. I added a voice.
“Prayer alone is not enough. Daunte Wright should still be with us,” Harris tweeted Monday night. “While the investigation is underway, our country needs justice and healing, and Dawnte’s family needs to know why their children died-they deserve an answer.”
Police officers shot deadly Daunte Wright after being pulled outside Minneapolis on Sunday, causing a clash between protesters and law enforcement agencies. On Monday, a police chief in Brooklyn Center City said a police officer identified as Kim Potter intended to use her taser, but instead grabbed her gun and shot the light.
Police released a body camera video of the shooting at a press conference. In the video, the policeman who shot Wright shouted “Taser” many times, and then shot Wright at close range while Wright was in the driver’s seat.
“I just shot him,” said the policeman when the car ran away.
The shooting on Sunday took place during Derek Chauvin’s trial over the murder of George Floyd.
Wright was 20 years old.
