According to police, one suspect was taken into custody. The Uvalde police department did not immediately provide further information.
Uvalde Memorial Hospital confirmed to ABC News that two children had died from possible gunshot wounds in the incident.
In addition, 13 students were treated in the hospital’s emergency department after the incident, the hospital said. Two patients were taken to San Antonio for treatment, while a third was pending, the hospital said. A 45-year-old man was also hospitalized after being shot by a bullet, the hospital said.
The San Antonio University of Health said it had two patients from the shooting incident – a child and an adult. The hospital did not yet have information about their condition.

Earlier, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District said a gunman had been spotted at Robb Primary School and asked people to stay away from the area.
“There is an active shooter in Robb Elementary,” the school district said on Twitter. “Law enforcement is on the ground. Your co-operation is needed right now, because you are not visiting the campus. Once more information is gathered, it will be communicated.”

A school official initially told ABC News that the shooting took place outside the campus and that Robb Elementary School was under lockdown.
The school informed the parents shortly after 2 pm local time that the students had been transferred to Sgt. Willie Deleon Civic Center, the reunion venue, and could be omitted.
Uvalde, Texas is located about 90 minutes west of San Antonio.
