US hands Bagram Airfield to Afghans after nearly 20 years

U.S. officials say the U.S. military left Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan nearly 20 years later.

The facility was the epicenter of the war to expel the Taliban and hunt down al-Qaeda perpetrators of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Two officials say the airfield has been completely handed over to Afghanistan’s National Security and Defense Forces.

They spoke on the condition that they were not identified because they were not authorized to disclose the delivery to the media.

One of the officials also said that General Austin S. Miller, US Commander-in-Chief of Afghanistan, “still retains all the capabilities and powers to protect the military.”
