Thousands of Internet users have reported widespread issues on prominent websites such as Amazon.com, Home Depot, Airbnb, and United Parcel Service, according to Downdetector.com, which monitors web outages.
Akamai Technologies Inc., a service that helps speed up and improve web content delivery, said it is experiencing service interruptions and is investigating issues. Around 12:30 pm New York time, the company said it would update within 30 minutes.
According to Downdetector, reported outages began to surge around 11:30 am, including websites for airlines, insurance companies, and various other industries, and continued to surge an hour later.
