UPDATE: Fontana homeowner shoots and kills alleged burglar from San Bernardino | News

The Fontana Police Department is investigating an incident in which a homeowner shot and killed a suspected thief on March 5, police said.

Around 22:47, police received a call to 911 from a resident of a home on block 7300 of Cypress Avenue. The owner of the house told the police dispatch that he had just shot an intruder in the house.

Officers along with San Bernardino county firefighters responded to the scene and safely detained the homeowner while a security clearance was being carried out. Inside, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was found dead at the scene. He was later identified as Andrew Ray Morales, a 36-year-old San Bernardino resident, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Division.

The homeowner was not injured during the incident.

“During the preliminary investigation, it turns out that the owner of the apartment was confronted by an armed suspect during a robbery inside his apartment when the shooting took place,” said Fontana PD Public Information official Daniel Romero.

“The owner of the house is cooperating with the investigation. He has not been arrested as it appears to be a case of self-defense.”

This investigation is ongoing, and detectives are requesting from the public any information or video surveillance footage related to this event. Information persons are required to contact Detective Adam Davis by telephone at (909) 854-8152 or by email at adavis@fontana.org.
