UC Berkeley threat: Shelter-in-place on Cal campus due to person ‘who may want to harm’ individuals, no active shooter

BERKELLEY, California (KGO) – Berkeley police have ordered housing threatening UC Berkeley campus, officials said on Twitter on Thursday.

UC Berkeley officials sent an email explaining that it was due to an emerging active sniper threat related to a student who had been paused for threatening behavior.

UC Berkeley Police clarified in a tweet“There is NO active shooter on campus. Police are actively searching for a person who may want to harm specific people. Continue to shelter at this time.”

A UC Berkeley spokesman said: “At the moment, all I can say is that there is a police investigation into a potential threat and that everyone on campus has been called to their place. In addition, those who are not on campus are asked to stay away. ».

Police told people on campus to go inside and walk away from the doors and windows.

They say emergency workers are responding to the scene. Police say the incident is limited to the campus area, particularly in the south.

A warning message informed students that all campus services, such as libraries, dining rooms and parking garages, are closed until further notice, and private lessons are canceled for the remainder of the day.
