Two rescued after getting stuck in mud at Lake Hodges

San Diego fire-rescue crews rescued two people trapped in mud about 30 meters from a shore along Lake Hodges on Sunday, a fire official said.

The incident was reported around 11 a.m. at the reservoir, a popular recreation spot west of Interstate 15 in Rancho Bernardo.

A Fire and Rescue helicopter lifted the couple from the mud that had reached their ankles, said Battalion Commander David Pilkerton. Both men were evaluated by paramedics at the scene and released.

There was no further information on the incident.

Access to Lake Hodges is right now limited while San Diego City crews are repairing cracks at the reservoir dam. Boating and fishing are prohibited, although hiking is allowed on the San Dieguito River Park trails around the lake. The city said in May that repairs would require crews to lower the lake’s water level, leaving the boat’s launch ramps inaccessible and exposing slippery, muddy shores.
