Two children were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Fontana on April 30, and a driver was arrested on charges of DUI and endangering children, according to the Fontana Police Department.
Around 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Etiwanda Avenue and Santa Ana Avenue in the southwestern part of the city.
During the investigation, it was learned from witnesses that a gray Toyota Camry was heading south in Etiwanda and entered the traffic lanes heading north and hitting a vehicle heading north while stopping at a red traffic light in Santa Ana.
The driver of the Toyota got out of the vehicle and allegedly started throwing empty cans of beer on the side of the road before the police arrived, according to a Facebook post by the PD.
Once officers arrived, they discovered that there were two children, 1 and 3 years old, in the Toyota Camry, in the back seat. Both children were in the car seats, but not properly seated in the seats. The children were transported to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Passengers in the other vehicle refused medical assistance at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota Camry is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was arrested.
Anyone who may have further information or have witnessed the collision is required to contact the Fontana DP Traffic Division at (909) 350-7740.
