Truck stolen from Fresno homeless advocacy group

FRESNO, California (KFSN) – A truck used by the “We Are Not Invisible” homeless defense team was stolen over the weekend.

It was the only means of transportation for the founder Dez Martinez.

“This truck is not just a truck. This truck has saved so many people,” Martinez said.

The Chevy truck was given to her five years ago.

“I know it’s an old truck and it’s probably just rubbish on someone else, but this truck, when it showed up, extended my reach,” Martinez said.

When the truck entered her life, she was able to help more strays around Fresno – bringing them food, water and other donations.

On Saturday morning, thieves stole the truck, taking with them Martinez’s only means of transportation.

What they could not steal was her passion for helping what she calls a “street family.”

On Monday morning, she received a phone call from a stranger who told her she had found her truck.

They take it to a car dealership to have it inspected, but he knows it may be a total loss.

ONE GoFundMe page has been created to help buy a new truck for the Martinez.

In the meantime, he is doing everything he can to continue helping the homeless community, which includes working with people in this camp that is scheduled to be cleared by the city.

“Every time I sweep, I carry people with their property, whether I’m going to move it to another campsite or a warehouse,” Martinez said.
