Caltrans Crews will close State Route 52 between Interstate 805 and Interstate 5 overnight for five days from late Sunday.
The daily closures start at 22:00 and continue until 4:30 a.m. Work will be completed at 4:30 a.m. Friday.
The closure, Caltrans said, is essential for San Diego Gas & Electric crews to work on overhead power lines that cross the freeway.
Driver warning signs will be posted before closing. Caltrans recommends these detours:
- West SR-52 north I-5 – Take north I-805, exit at La Jolla Village Drive off ramp. Turn left at La Jolla village, then continue onto the north I-5 ramp.
- West SR-52 south I-5 – head south on I-805, exit onto Balboa Avenue off the ramp. Turn right onto Balboa, then continue onto the south ramp I-5.
- North I-5 to east SR-52 – exit at Balboa Ramp, turn right at Balboa. Continue north on the I-805 on the ramp, then take the SR-52 heading east.
- South I-5 East SR-52: Exit at La Jolla Village Ramp, turn left onto La Jolla Village, continue south on I-805 Ramp, then head east on SR-52.
Entrances to the east SR-52 from Regents Road and Genesee Avenue will remain open.
Traffic delays may occur and travelers are advised to plan in advance, allow extra time to reach their destinations and watch online real-time traffic updates. In addition, motorists are required to be vigilant in the work area and to watch out for workers while driving in the area.
