Toby Keith has been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
In a statement posted to his confirmed Twitter and Instagram accounts on Sunday, the country superstar said he learned he had the disease last fall – and has received various treatments since then.
“I’ve been using chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery for the past six months,” Keith said, adding on a simple, hopeful, general level:
“So far so good.”
The 60-year-old concluded in his message:
“I need time to breathe, recover and relax.
“I’m looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I’ll see the fans sooner or later. I can’t wait.”
Last October, the 60-year-old dropped his first studio album in five years.
He is currently touring on this album (“Peso In My Pocket”) and is scheduled to perform in Illinois and Michigan on June 17th and 18th.
Despite the above statement, no official announcements have been made of any changes to the singer’s tour schedule.
The Oklahoma also played the Memorial Day weekend show at the Heroes Honor Festival in Daytona Beach, Florida … and performed to a sold-out audience in San Antonio Rodeo in February.
In May, Keith participated in The 2022 Toby Keith and Friends Golf Classic, which raised more than $ 1.38 million for charity.
Keith and wife Tricia Lucus were married in 1984.
They have three children: daughters Shelley Covel Rowland, 42, and Krystal Keith, 36, and son Stelen Keith Covel, 25.
Veteran Star also has several grandchildren.
As a result of an unfortunate coincidence, Keith has also long been an advocate for cancer patients.
In 2006, she founded the Toby Keith Foundation to support children with cancer.
In 2014, the foundation opened OK Kids Korral, “a free, convenient and comfortable home for pediatric cancer patients receiving treatment,” as explained on their website.
“There’s no greater gift than keeping families strong and together in difficult times,” he says on the foundation’s website.
“If we can relieve family stress, encourage a brother or sister, and comfort a sick child, we can contribute to the fight against cancer.”
Keith has collected 42 Top 10 hits and 32 charts and sold 40 million albums.
He has given hundreds of performances to U.S. service members abroad, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as at the events of Presidents Donald Trump, Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
In response to this sad news, a number of singers and entertainers contacted us on social media and sent Keith best regards.
“Hold on,” John Rich wrote.
“I wish my big friend a speedy recovery and lots of love from most redheads around the world @tobykeith #SeeYouInCabo,” added Sammy Hagar.
“Take care of you and your family. We’re here to support chemotherapy and see you as soon as you can, not the day before!” Tweeted Cathy Bingham.
“My heart, soul, and prayer are always with you and your family. My friend holds your incredible warrior spirit,” Bret Michaels wrote.
