Title 42 is here to stay a little while longer –

SAN DIEGO (COUSSI) – A federal judge in Louisiana has ruled that asylum restrictions for Title-42 COVID-19 should continue at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Esther Valdes Clayton, an Immigration Lawyer, joined KUSI’s Logan Byrnes at “Good Evening San Diego” to provide more details about the decision.

During a preliminary hearing, U.S. District Judge Robert Summerhays ruled that restrictions on our southern borders should continue.

The ruling now blocks the Biden government’s plan for Title 42 restrictions to expire this Monday, May 23rd.

The measure was introduced by the CDC in March 2020 and provides for the removal of asylum seekers3 in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

KUSI also spoke with Rodney Scott, a retired U.S. Border Patrol officer, about expanding Title 42.
