Tick season has arrived in the South. How to avoid bites and what to watch out for

It’s time in the South, so you can look forward to it.

Although people may encounter ticks throughout the year, small critters are most active from April to September. For example, in North Carolina. tick bite is likely to start in late summer, Wake County said on its website.

Health experts say it is important to avoid tick bites because they can transmit very dangerous diseases to humans.

Here are some tips to keep you safe and sound.

How can you avoid being bitten?

When you return home from a place where ticks can live, experts recommend bathing. You may also want to examine your body and clothing for a variety of species.

“Remove the attached tag as soon as you notice it,” the CDC said on its website. “Catch the tick with tweezers, as close to the skin as possible, and remove it directly.”

It is also recommended to check for signs that something may be wrong, including rashes, fever and flu symptoms. Lyme disease, the most common disease in the United States, is “rarely a threat to life” but waiting for treatment can have serious consequences, according to health officials.
