Three arrested in connection with Vista bombings –

VISTA (KOUSI) – Three men were arrested on Saturday in connection with a series of explosions on Wednesday in Vista, authorities said.

Valentin Castaneda, 25, was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a destructive device near a church and on public roads, possessing explosives, detonating a device intended to intimidate, avoiding a criminal offense and endangering children, the lieutenant said. Juan Jose Castaneda Santiago, 23, and Caleigh Tabler, 21, were arrested on suspicion of being accessories after the incident and the danger of childhood.

MEPs responded to three locations within three hours on Wednesday following reports of explosions at the following hours and locations:

– 11:30 a.m. in the 900 block of East Vista Way.

– 1:24 p.m. in the 100 block of East Drive.

– 14:41 in block 400 of East Drive.

A citizen who shared security camera footage with the sheriff’s detectives helped identify a black car that appeared at one of the blast sites, Buether said.

Sheriff detectives located the car in the early hours of Saturday morning at 1200 block on North Santa Fe Avenue. Deputies with the Vista Patrol Station tried to pull the car, but the driver took off.

During the two-mile pursuit, passengers began throwing explosive devices out of the car window, Buether said. Detectives from the Sheriff’s bomb / incendiary unit assembled two explosive devices along the track and made them safe, he added.

The car stopped at 1800 Queens Way Square in a non-Vista area. A search warrant was issued for the car and at a house at 1200 North Santa Fe Avenue.

Additional explosive devices, bomb-making materials, rifles, pistols and ammunition were seized, authorities said.

Three children, a 14-year-old boy, a 7-year-old girl and a baby were found safe at home. San Diego County Child Protection Services were notified and relatives took care of the children.

The search was ongoing, but authorities said there did not appear to be a specific target for the blasts.

No one was injured in the incidents and no material damage was caused.

All three suspects will be held at the Vista Detention Center.
