It is a mission.
“Whatever they dream of, we can do it for them,” says Tum Ouk.
The Ouk family has owned the bakery in Clovis, Central California for more than 20 years.
But something changed three years ago.
“In the beginning, our donuts had no design. They were just normal. I wanted to put something colorful in there,” says director Sreymon Yi.
So she started making donut designs, searching the internet, finding her own ideas.
Some were based on holidays, others were cartoon characters, superheroes, Disney princesses. If you wanted something for Halloween, you would find designs with Frankenstein spiders or goblins or monsters. Or an incorporeal eye or a haunted house.
If you wanted a pizza-like donut or a Pac-Man-themed donut, if you were obsessed with the ocean or nostalgic for the ’90s, you would understand how to turn your heart’s desire into an enjoyable design.
The most popular design themes, however, remain the classics: unicorns, rainbows, mermaids, Hello Kitty and Spiderman.
2 children or 3 children come here, (and shout): “Oh, I want this – I want this! I want this!””
When Yi posted her designs on the bakery’s Facebook and Instagram pages, they started creating buzz online. Suddenly, Dream Donuts had thousands of new social media fans and a flood of new customers. Some came from hundreds of miles away to see and taste the donuts their friends had shared.
And their joy is what Yi loves most.
“Especially the children, when they come here, (they say):” My God! “So cute!” And then when we hear that sound, it makes us happy, “he says.
