Thieves steal $7,000 of toys collected by Pomona police for underprivileged children – Daily Bulletin

Thieves broke into a Pomona-owned storage unit and stole toys worth more than $ 7,000 being saved for the Police Department’s Christmas toy car for underprivileged children, police announced on Tuesday, June 7th. .

On Monday, June 6, around 2 p.m., officers discovered that the city’s storage container had been broken over the weekend, the Police Department said in a press release. The container was being used to store toys donated by community partners and purchased with funds donated to the annual Santa Cop Police Department car, authorities said.

Things taken during the theft included several bicycles, Disney toys, Lego kits and Supreme bags, police said.

“The Pomona Police Department Community Services Unit works year-round seeking donations and fundraisers to provide Christmas joy to families who would otherwise go unnoticed during the holiday season,” police said in a press release.

More than 200 families were provided with supermarket toys and gift cards in the Santa Cop 2021 program, authorities said.
