HESPERIA, California (VVNG.com) – The recent omnibus approval in Congress provided $ 2,000,000 to fund the Maple Avenue improvement project, through a necessary and long-awaited project that will improve one of the busiest corridors in the city.
Hesperia continues to grow and develop as commercial and residential developers seek new opportunities in the high desert. This increase in development highlighted the City’s increased need for additional infrastructure, especially new corridors running from north to south and connecting with city corridors from east to west.
“I would like to thank Congressman Obernolte for his interest in our city,” Mayor Brigitte Bennington said. “Maple Avenue is one of several major north-south corridors connecting Main Street and Ranchero Road. The improvements associated with this project will benefit all residents of Hesperia, as well as those living in our neighboring cities. ”
On March 10, 2022, the city was notified that the Maple Avenue improvement project was funded by an omnibus. In May 2021, Congressman Jay Obernolte applied for community project funding to the Appropriations Committee for the Maple Avenue Improvement Project. Not all submissions to the Appropriations Committee were funded; however, Congressman Obernolte’s office has worked diligently to give this project the best chance of obtaining funding.
Street improvements will stretch along Maple Avenue from Ranchero Road to Main Street. The carriageway will be widened to five lanes in accordance with the City Circulation Plan, which will include two lanes for driving in each direction, a central turnout, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, the expansion of the California Aqueduct Bridge and traffic signals.
“Improving Maple Avenue has been on the City’s priority list for some time,” added city manager Nils Bentsen. “Funding for roads is limited, and there are many competitive priorities within the City, so we are grateful for the help of Congressman Obernolte and his staff in securing these funds. This project will result in improved security and mobility and will have a positive impact on the wider region. ”
Improvements related to this project will alleviate congestion, improve air quality by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reduce emergency response times for emergency vehicles, provide improved connectivity for residents and business centers, create jobs, increase the use of non-motorized transportation systems and facilitate continued growth.
