Jeff Bridges plays the protagonist, a retired CIA agent, while John Lithgow co-stars as his former pilot, who became an adversary.
Amy Breneman joins them as the former agent’s partner.
At the Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday night, those involved in the tense drama were all smiling at the premiere of the play, which debuts on FX on Thursday and will air the next day on Hulu.
Bridges looked like a picture of health, but the star was diagnosed with lymphoma during filming and then had a bad case of COVID-19 in the cancer treatment unit.
He barely survived and told Eyewitness News that he “almost died a few times”, but managed to return after two years to finish the game “The Old Man”, a former agent who discovers that his previous actions have had serious consequences in present.
“He was willing to do anything and now that proves to be the cause of that willingness,” Bridges said.
“They made the mistake for the right reasons,” Lithgow said. “They were the best intentions in the world and this combination, this crazy combination of good and bad behavior is something that leads the story of the whole series.”
The first two hours of “The Old Man” premiere on Thursday night at 22:00 on FX and will be available the next day on Hulu, both owned by Disney, the same parent company of this ABC station.
