The importance of treatment goals in PSA

PsA is a type of inflammatory arthritis associated with psoriasis — a condition that affects the skin and nails. People with PsA experience pain and swelling in their joints, and in areas where tendons and ligaments connect to the bone. MDA is a therapeutic target used in PsA that takes both symptoms and patient vision into consideration.

Previous studies have shown that getting MDA in the first year after diagnosis it has to do with quality of life. However, data on the long-term impact of achieving MDA in the first year is lacking. Now, new information presented at the 2022 EULAR conference shows that PsA patients with advanced MDA have a better quality of life than population after 1, 2 and 3 years of payment. However, those who did not receive MDA in the first year after diagnosis were significantly lower in quality of life compared to those with persistent MDA, and these differences persisted over time.

Overall, the study by Drs. Presented by Selinde Snoeck Henkemans concludes that failure to achieve MDA in the first year after the diagnosis of PsA is associated with worse survival outcomes that persist even with further treatment.

These data on the importance of MDA are complemented by a study published in the Council, reviewing research from UPLIFT-international studies among adults with diagnosis of PsA and / or psoriasis, and the care of rheumatologists and dermatologists.

The study – presented by Professor Pascal Richette – found that it was evaluated by rheumatologists diseases or low back pain (LDA) as the most important goal, while patients focus on reducing the incidence of joint pain. Patients and rheumatologists generally agree on the major factors contributing to the severity of the disease, the goals of treatment, and the characteristics of the effective PsA method. However, most patients do not feel comfortable with them a healer on current treatment policies.

These findings suggest an improvement in the methods to be discussed remedy goals and achieving consistency in perceptions are essential to improving patient outcomes.
