Redding, CA (AP) — The damage assessment team went out on Saturday to determine the number of wildfire-burning buildings that evacuated thousands of residents of Northern California.
Firefighters working in terrain hit by a sudden drought hope that the mild weather over the next few days will help fight the phone fire north of the city of Reading.
Initial assessments revealed that at least 100 homes and other structures had been burned down, officials said. But that number could change as the team went down the street on Saturday.
California fires have burned more than 3,600 square miles and destroyed more than 3,200 buildings so far this year.
