Police in Long Beach are investigating a case that escalated into an altercation between a man and a woman that led to the summons of members of the SWAT team.
The incident happened around 5:51 on Sunday morning on the 2300 block of Long Beach Boulevard.
“Preliminary investigation suggests an altercation between an adult male suspect and an adult female victim escalated when the suspect physically assaulted the victim,” Long Beach Police said in a statement. “Once officers arrived on the scene, the suspect barricaded himself in his vehicle and refused to obey the officers’ orders.”
Due to the nature of the situation, SWAT team members responded to the incident to assist police, and nearby residents were evacuated or evacuated.
video Information posted on the Citizen app indicated a large police presence in the area, with the LBPD tweeted Long Beach Boulevard between Hill Street and Barnet Street was closed at 8:20 a.m. Sunday due to an “ongoing investigation by SWAT resources.”
The suspect eventually complied with police orders and was safely taken into custody. He was taken to a local hospital for an unrelated health problem and will be sent to the Long Beach City Jail after receiving medical clearance.
The victim’s condition is still unknown.
The closed section of Long Beach Boulevard reopened at 10 a.m., according to the LBPD. Said.
