Suspected assault at 7-Eleven leads to Vista standoff

A man suspected of assaulting another man hid inside a house in Vista on Sunday afternoon, leading to a stalemate that continued hours later, sheriff’s officials said.

The incident started around 1pm when a passerby tried to intervene when a man and a woman were arguing inside a 7-Eleven, said Sheriff Lieutenant Mike Krugh. The passer-by called for help after he was allegedly attacked by the man, Krug said.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect, determine where he lives and went to a house on West Indian Rock Road near North Santa Fe Avenue, but the man refused to leave the house. Hours later, MPs had set up a perimeter and called the SWAT team in hopes of taking the man into custody.

As of 7:30 p.m., the controversy was still ongoing. No other details were immediately available.
