Suspect arrested in fatal Oceanside hit-and-run

Oceanside police announced Wednesday that they have arrested a suspect nearly two months after the death of Cecilia Shu, a 68-year-old Oceanside resident.

Sean Richter, 34, also of Oceanside, was taken into custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run with death, according to police spokeswoman Jennifer Atenza.

Shu was hit at 8:19 am. on June 5 in the area of Benet Road and Leepish Drive, Atenza said in a news release. Police said at the time that the collision appeared to be an accident and that speed may have been a factor.

Investigators searched the vehicle crash centers and the neighborhood surrounding the crash for weeks before recovering the suspect’s vehicle two weeks ago. Physical evidence and witness statements were used to identify Richter.

“Investigators thank the public and media for their continued support in sharing the search for those responsible for this crime,” the statement said.
