Surfers are in crisis after being attacked by sharks off the coast of California.

Eric in his thirties was bitten by a shark creeping under the board on his thigh, according to a Bodega Bay fire department official.

His friend Jared Davis describes the tragic incident as follows: KPIX, Said the attack slowly unfolded when Eric shouted for help.

“I saw the shark’s dorsal fin, and then the tail fin,” Davis recalled.

“They were submerged in the water. It certainly wasn’t like a fast attack. It was nice and slow. It’s like a dolphin peaking.”

Davis, who was swimming about 15 yards away, said Eric shouted, “Shark!” When he fought the way back to the shore with a bloody “red stripe” that peaked through his wetsuit.

Approximately 12 surfers rushed to help Eric and provided first aid until the first aid arrived.

“The first thing we did was to use a surf leash to apply a tourniquet,” Davis said. KGO.. “We did that by tying them together as tightly as possible with two separate surf leashes.”

Eric was then airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in danger. He is expected to survive.

Hands of help

Paramedics Jonathan Bauer and Timothy Salzzo praised the quick actions of the surfers who set foot to help Eric.

“Based on the care he received before his arrival, I think it really helped save his feet,” Saluzzo said.

Bauer said Eric had succeeded in repelling the shark by hitting it against his face.

Following the attack, Salmon Creek Beach was closed to visitors for two days.

Officials said it was not clear which type of shark beat Eric, but great white sharks are known to live in the waters around Bodega Bay.

Another surfer, Katie Wilson, was bitten by a shark in May 2019, about 100 yards from North Salmon Creek Beach.

So far in 2021 57 reported shark attacks in the United States, According to trackingsharks.com.
