Supreme Court weighs policy for migrants to wait in Mexico

TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) – A Trump -era policy requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for a U.S. court hearing will be debated Tuesday before the U.S. Supreme Court.

President Joe Biden rescinded the “Stay in Mexico” policy on his first day in office.

The judge demanded that he return it in December, but no 3,000 visitors were registered by the end of March, with little effect when officials cut off visitors instead. 700,000 times at the limit.

The criticisms of the policy under Biden are similar to those under President Donald Trump: Foreigners are afraid of Mexico’s border cities and it is difficult to get lawyers from Mexico.
