Sun Belt Conference reveals 2021 preseason awards and poll

Sunbelt released the 2021 Preseason All-Conference Football Team on Tuesday, featuring a pair of bobcats.

Texas State Junior Wide Receiver Marcel Barbie and Defensive Lineman Nico Ezidol have each been selected for the All-Sunbelt Second Team. Barbie won 40 passes last season with 584 yards and 10 touchdowns. This is the mark ranked 7th in FBS. Ezidore collected 66 tackles in 2020. This includes a loss of 13.0, a sack of 3.5 and one forced fumble. Both players were nominated for the third team of all tournaments at the end of last year.

Grayson McCall, a sophomore quarterback in Coastal Carolina’s red shirt, has been named the League’s Pre-Season Offense Player of the Year, and Troy Junior Linebacker Carlton Marshall has joined the Pre-Season Defensive Player of the Year.

Bobcat was ranked 4th in the West Division and 6th overall with 25 points on the Sunbelt Coach Pole. Louisiana was chosen as a favorite to win the conference title with 49 points, followed by Shanti Cleares and Appalachian State University, the first to tie in the eastern region with 44 points each.

Arkansas finished fourth overall with 38 points and one vote in the west. South Alabama followed with 27 points. Georgia (24 points), Georgia Southern (20 points), Troy (18 points), and Louisiana-Monroe (11 points) all followed Texas in a vote.

Sunbelt Football Media Day will be held Thursday in New Orleans. Ezidore, Bobcats head coach Jake Spavital, and sophomore Brock Sturges will represent Texas at the event. The team will face Baylor in Bobcat Stadium and begin the 2021 season on September 4th at 6 pm.
