Marina optician robbed for 6th time in six months, stolen $40,000

San Francisco (cron) – The owner of a designer optician in San Francisco is seeking justice after a series of robberies at his shop. The latest incident occurred on Tuesday and was captured in full on video.

The owner of Veo Optics in Marina is understandably devastated after being robbed six times in six months and losing an estimated $200,000. On Tuesday, two men stole an estimated $40,000 worth of branded glasses.

“It was an emotional day,” said owner Ryan Restua. “We are just local business owners trying to serve our communities, feed our families and take care of our loved ones.”

This location has been in business on the corner of Union and Octavia Streets for 10 years.

“I worked two jobs and saved money just to be part of this amazing organization that I truly believe in,” said Restua.

Surveillance video of Tuesday’s incident shows the two men jumping through a half-open Dutch door. At first, the two appeared to be shopping.

“And they went to work,” explains Restua. “They started stealing frames…they’re targeting the bigger brand, Chanel. That’s what’s bringing them. Pick up the frame, jump off, and that’s it.”

Veo closed for the day after Restua called the police. He says he has to figure out how to replenish empty shelves.

Last June, KRON4 reported on a robbery at a Veo mission base in which an employee was pepper sprayed by a thief.

“Fortunately, the last case we were reporting in the news actually led to the arrest of one person,” Restua said. “We are grateful for that and hope that the same thing happens here.”

Restua hopes the public can help identify the people in the video and will call on local leaders to hold them accountable if they are caught.

“Local law enforcement is doing everything they can and I understand this,” he said. “We need the help of our political leaders. Any support from the community that leads to the arrest of criminals who rob, rob and continue to rob. There will be no justice served to these people.”

The owner says they plan to make additional changes to their security measures. He says it would be easy to give up and close the shop, but he intends to stay open.
