Student involved in alleged racist remarks towards Buchanan girl’s soccer identified

FRESNO, California (KFSN) – School officials say they have spotted a schoolgirl who made racist jokes against black and Latina footballers on the Buchanan High women’s team.

Officials at Oak Ridge High in the Sacramento area will not make the student’s identity public, but say they will make sure the actions are considered hate crime and that the student will be fully punished.

The incident happened in a Division 1 away league match between Buchanan High School and Oak Ridge High School in the Sacramento area.

Two Buchanan high school football players made racist noises as they went to execute their penalties.

A student on the Oak Ridge side made monkey noises as Ciara Wilson, an African-American soccer player from Buchanan, approached the ball.

The El Dorado Union High School District issued a statement saying in part, “A completely unprovoked and unacceptable outburst was made by a person on the Oak Ridge side of the stands as the match went from time to time on penalties. The behavior of this person “They do not represent the values ​​of our school, our district or our community. This outright racist act has taken the focus away from two excellent groups of young athletes.”

“There is no room for this kind of individual behavior anywhere in society,” said Oak Ridge High School principal.
